Ancient myths of many cultures give expression to the living landscapes they originate from.
In a language of images they describe the time before time and the algo-rhythmic dance at the beginning of creation. Myths code original instructions, lay the deep architecture of the human story and map future challenges and world destiny.
Studying the evolution of consciousness as reflected in these stories, we can learn there were times when the stars spoke to people and the gods were intimately involved in human affairs, controlling and guiding humans that had very limited freedom.
Today, individual freedom is highly valued, yet often at the expense of our relationships - with one another and with the natural ecosystems we inhabit.
Amid rising disasters, conflict, confusion, and loneliness, our shared understanding of reality grows increasingly fragmented and polarised.
As the warmth of our ancestors’ communal fires fades into the cold glow of social media, we ache for connection, guidance, and inspiration in an age when the gods and goddesses seem to have fallen silent.
As we race to embrace exponential advances in artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and robotics - the choices we make today are crucial for generations to come.
Storytellers can invite us to pause to consider what it means to protect what makes us deeply human?
On this course we will explore, through mythic lenses, the relationship between humanity, modernity, technology, ecology and land.
Working with ancient myths from around the world, we will examine our relationships with spirituality, our call for service and what we wish to be a voice for, playing our role in the greater story we live in.
We will learn and practice advanced storytelling techniques and find together ways to create bridges between timeless wisdom, modern audiences and contemporary perspectives.
The course will include an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.
